Bio

Diving into the deepest waters of art-rock, Adelaide post-genre power trio The Only Objects explore groove and dissonance while always navigating true north through pop hooks and accessible songwriting. Their sound channels the stylistic dynamism of Black Country, New Road or glass beach with the rhythmic power and apocalyptic gaze of The Smile, with a smattering of Monika Roscher’s penchant for layered arrangements and blasts of cataclysmic atonality.

BAND MEMBERS

Patrick Lang

Lead Vocals/Guitar/Synths

Dr. Patrick Lang has been a leader in the Adelaide electronic music scene for the better part of a decade, running a plethora of events and festivals as the Artistic Director of Futuresounds Adelaide, as well as a practicing artist with his art-pop project The Only Objects. He is also a Screen & Media scholar, holding a Ph.D from Flinders University in post-9/11 espionage television. Post-graduation, his research focus has been on utilising literary theory to suggest pathways for renewal for the music album. This emphasises the nexus between theory and creative praxis. He has thrice been nominated for ‘Best Festival/Event’ at the South Australian Music Awards.

Zacc Breheny

Bass/Backing Vocals

Picking up bass because he was ‘too big’ for guitar, Zacc Brehney has a broad variety of projects and collaborations under his belt, having played with artists as diverse as singer/songwriter Bec Stevens, to cult-Adelaide punky funksters Pink Noise Generator and The Underwater Adventure Series. He studied a Bachelor of Music (Jazz Performance) for two years at the University of Adelaide, and is currently undertaking a Bachelor of Music (Popular Music) at the same institution. When not providing the low-end groove for PNG or art-pop outfit The Only Objects, Zacc can be found mixing around Adelaide as a professional live sound technician, and teaching bass in a private capacity. His favourite colour is purple.

Sam Menzel

Drums

Drummer and percussionist Sam Menzel has developed an impressive repertoire for his 27 years on Earth, with an extensive background in both original music and musical theatre productions. He has played in over 30 theatre shows and is currently developing his collaborations with original bands, playing with both party-funk-rock-mainstays Pimpin’ Horus and dark synth proprietors The Only Objects. In addition to his live work, he has taught drums at Tatachilla Lutheran College since 2012, where he values the opportunity to pass on his skills and experience to a younger generation.
