'Echoes: The Threshold Cycle' gathers the first four transmissions from The Only Objects' Echoes series into a single rite. A passage through haunted signal and cosmic drift.

These pieces began as live promotional fragments for the 'Echoes in the Gloaming' event series. Short, atmospheric cues to set the tone and vibe of each night. In the studio they were expanded, reshaped, and deepened, becoming something stranger and more deliberate.

For those attuned to the strange.

One year ago, we released our debut album ‘The Nostomanic Cypher’. A heartfelt collection of songs about love, loss, the Cold War, nostalgia and grief, it was for dreaming and dancing, for contemplation and carousing. More than that, it contained a metanarrative exploring the question of catharsis. In short, is it ever worth it? If we take our pain and turn it into art, what do we get? Is that exchange worth something? Anything?

Ultimately though, it’s an album about being haunted. About futures we were promised and never got. About alternate versions of reality that crash and bang at your door, demanding to be let in.

To celebrate one year of ‘The Nostomanic Cypher’, we’ve had the entire album remixed by some of Australia’s best emerging and established producers. After all, what is more haunted than the concept of a remix? A simulated artefact, built from the remnants of the past. The past inside the present, indeed.

From conscious hip hop to grinding Berlin techno, from sludgefest to lofi – ‘The Nostomanic Cypher’ has it all, and more.

Come get haunted with us.

Adelaide electro-art-pop quartet Only Objects are incredibly proud to present their debut record ‘The Nostomanic Cypher’. A dramatic disruption of the LP format, the album is a journey from macro to micro, from the depths of singularities to the most raw, unfiltered intimacy. Produced by Mario Späte (Montaigne, Megan Washington, Tkay Maidza) ‘The Nostomanic Cypher’ is a heady mix of bombastic, dramatic synth-pop, clattering electro-indie-punk and confessional songwriting.

From the universe-destroying heaviness of ‘Accretion Disk’, through the electro-dance-pop of ‘Disarm’, to the Cold War storytelling of ‘Kathy, I’m Pushing the Button’, the punk weariness of ‘Mortgaged’ and the final, intimate stories of ‘The Happiest Thought’, this is a record that is widescreen and technicolour in scale, but highly personal in execution.

With a muscular rhythm section, walls of synths, washes of strings and lush backing vocals throughout, this is a feast for your ears, your mind, and your heart.
